The winter monsoon brought cold and dry weather to southern China today. Locally, temperatures over most parts of the territory this morning were around 3 degrees lower than those of yesterday. The minimum temperature was about 12 to 13 degrees in the urban areas and around 10 degrees in the New Territories. It was fine and dry during the day. Relative humidity generally fell below 50 per cent in the afternoon. The cold and dry winter monsoon will continue to affect southern China in the next few days.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Friday, 9 Jan 2009)

Fine and dry. Cold in the morning. The minimum temperature will be about 11 degrees in the urban areas and a few degrees lower in the New Territories. The maximum temperature will be around 17 degrees during the day. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, occasionally strong over offshore waters later.

Outlook : Cold weather persisting into midweek next week with morning temperatures at around 10 degrees.
