The "Hong Kong Community Weather Information Network" started operation on 24 August 2007. All interested organizations and schools are welcome to join the network.

The network was inaugurated by Mr. C.Y. Lam, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, and Professor Helen Chan, Chair Professor and Head of Department of Applied Physics of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, at the Hong Kong Observatory Headquarters that day.

The network is a collaborative effort of the Hong Kong Observatory, the Department of Applied Physics of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Joint-school Meteorological Association. The aim is to gather weather information collected by weather stations in schools and organizations, and make it available on the Internet for use by the public after appropriate data quality assurance.
