From 27 May 2009 onwards, the Hong Kong Observatory starts disseminating worldwide, 4 times daily, the local upper-air meteorological reports in table driven code form (in BUFR format). According to the World Meteorological Orangization's record, apart from China and Japan, Hong Kong is now the third Member in Asia that disseminates upper-air weather measurement report in BUFR.
BUFR is a binary coding standard adopted by the World Meteorological Organizational recently for meteorological data exchange. Comparing with the traditional alphanumeric codes, BUFR provides wider coverage and better representation of meteorological data.
