On 17 January 2012, Mr. Shun Chi-ming, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory led a delegation of 8 people to attend the 17th Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Meteorological Cooperation Meeting in Macao with representatives of the Guangdong Meteorological Bureau and the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau.  This meeting was also joined by Mr. Zhou Heng, the Counsel of the Department of International Cooperation of the China Meteorological Administration.  This annual cooperation meeting is hosted by the three parties in turn.  

The meeting reviewed the work of the three parties in the past year.  It also set the direction of cooperation in the coming year on numerous areas of development, including weather monitoring, weather forecasting techniques, numerical weather prediction modeling technique, climate forecast and data sharing, etc.  It aims to foster further cooperation and promote continuous enhancement in weather services of the region.  The cooperation meeting was followed by the 26th Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Seminar on Meteorological Science and Technology, in which experts from the three parties reviewed the significant weather events in the past year, discussed and shared the latest results of scientific research.  The active discussions in the seminar not only allow participants to enrich their mutual understanding in the development of meteorological science and technology, but also facilitate further strengthening of cooperation in the weather services of the three parties.
