Dr. CHUNG Wai-hung Thomas, Head of Emergency Response and Information Branch in the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health, shared with Observatory colleagues on 17 September 2009 his management experience and insight in emergency preparedness in our monthly management forum.

Dr Chung's major responsibilities included facilitation of emergency preparedness and management of public health crisis e.g. developing and updating contingency plans, planning and co-ordinating exercises and drills, as well as developing risk communication strategy.

Dr Chung used the recent H1N1 pandemic as an example to discuss the strategies of emergency preparedness and management of crisis. The talk was informative and provided much food for thought for emergency preparedness of the Observatory.
