  • The Observatory continues supporting “Life Buddies” Mentoring Scheme

  • Tuesday, 30th July 2019

For the fourth year in a row, the Observatory participated in this year’s “Life Buddies” Mentoring Scheme organised by the Commission on Poverty. Ten Secondary 6 students from United Christian College and Yuen Long Merchants Association Secondary School underwent two-day job tasting at the Observatory in July. Under the guidance of the Observatory’s mentors, they experienced in person the work of various posts of the Observatory, including preparation of aviation and marine weather forecasts and production of TV weather programme. They also visited various meteorological equipment sites and facilities of the Observatory. The students expressed that the job tasting activity enhanced their understanding of the various work areas of the Observatory, and they highly appreciated the caring and dedicated effort of the Observatory’s staff in serving the public.

The "Life Buddies" Mentoring Scheme was launched by the Commission on Poverty in October 2015. It is a cross-sectoral career-focused project to promote mentoring culture in the community and provide work exposure to facilitate upward mobility of youth.
