The Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr C.Y. Lam, delivered in Geneva on 30 June a scientific lecture to the Executive Council of the World Meteorological Organization. The title of the lecture was "The Role of National Meteorological/Hydrological Services in Natural Disaster Reduction". This is the first time a Hong Kong meteorologist has been invited to lecture on such a prestigious occasion. It reflects the recognition by the international community of the contributions of HKO to natural disaster reduction in Hong Kong.
