Under the Hong Kong Community Weather Information Network (HK Co-WIN), the weather station at Elegantia College (in Sheung Shui district)captured a minimum temperature of 7°C around dawn on 29 Nov. 2008. The cold snap at the time necessitated the first cold warning by the Observatory, as temperatures plummeted and many places in Hong Kong reported temperatures below 10°C.
The HK Co-WIN is a collaborative effort by the Hong Kong Observatory, the Department of Applied Physics of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Joint-school Meteorological Association. It provides real-time air temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, wind speed and direction, as well as ultraviolet radiation index (UVI) to augment the automatic weather station network set up by the Observatory. With around 30 stations, this webpage is a source of useful information on the regional temperature difference, in particular in respect of clothing for the young and old. The weather information is available at http://weather.ap.polyu.edu.hk/index.php.
