The Theme of the Calendar
The cover of the calendar shows the Victoria Harbour at sunset with an amazing array of brilliant lights encased in clusters of glassy towers, showing the metropolis of Hong Kong as a mesmerizing sight. As the Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr. C. Y. Lam, points out, “While Hong Kong is famous for closely packed skyscrapers, it has a vast countryside endowed with breathtaking views, just minutes from the city centre. It is a city where modern civilization meets Nature head on. We invite readers to enjoy seeing with their own eyes the co-existence and integration of these contrasting components in our city. We encourage all to contemplate how we should live our lives in the modern city, to make sure that we would not cause more climatic change or more haziness in the sky. Only then would we be able to preserve these beautiful scenes and to ensure the harmonious co-existence of Nature and human beings in the centuries to come.”
