Hong Kong Po Shan Seismograph Station Joins
Global Seismographic Network

Fast and accurate analysis of earthquakes requires real-time recording of seismic waves by seismograph stations around the world.  Global Seismographic Network (GSN) is a global network of broadband seismograph stations equipped with high quality seismic sensors. It is the primary network for detecting global earthquakes by various earthquake monitoring centres.

Hong Kong Po Shan Seismograph Station commissioned in early 2010 has become the 154th member of GSN.  Located at the northern coast of the South China Sea, its seismograph is capable of early detection of seismic waves of earthquakes in the South China Sea, providing data for effective monitoring of earthquakes in this region by earthquake monitoring and tsunami warning centres all over the world.
