In response to the development of the nuclear accident in Fukushima, Japan, the Observatory enhanced radiation monitoring of sea water.  With the assistance of the Environmental Protection Department, sea water samples were collected earlier in the coastal waters of Hong Kong.  Initial radiation measurement results indicate that no artificial radionuclides were detected in the sea water samples.  The Observatory will continue to closely monitor the situation.
