"Basic Meteorological Knowledge" now on sale
(12 October 2007)

The Hong Kong Observatory has published a book "Basic Meteorological Knowledge" (°ò¦®ð¶Hª¾ÃÑ) (in Chinese only). The aim of the book is to promote meteorological knowledge and enhance public understanding of weather systems that affect Hong Kong, in order to raise awareness of disaster prevention and mitigation. In 101 pages, the book introduces, in layman's terms, basic meteorological knowledge, weather observation skills and analysis methods, as well as some common weather types in Hong Kong. It also covers such global phenomena as El Nino/La Nina, and climate change brought about by greenhouse effects.

The book can be obtained at the Hong Kong Observatory Resource Centre, the Publications Sales Unit of the Information Services Department, General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tuen Mun Central Post Office and Sha Tin Central Post Office. The price is $40 a copy.
