The Kai Tak wind station is located at the southeastern side of the runway of the old Kai Tak Airport (please see the map below for the location of the wind station).  While its southeast is the unobstructed waters of Lei Yue Mun, there are mountain ranges and high-rise buildings in other directions, in particular to its north and northeast.  The station is more exposed to winds from the southeast sector, as revealed in the annual wind rose for the station.
