Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Meeting on Cooperation in Meteorological Operations Convened in Zhuhai

The 28th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao (GHM) Meeting on Cooperation in Meteorological Operations and the 36th GHM Seminar on Meteorological Science and Technology were held on 29 and 30 January 2024 in Zhuhai, Guangdong. Representatives from the China Meteorological Administration, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific / World Meteorological Organization Typhoon Committee, Guangdong Meteorological Service, Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, Guangxi Meteorological Service and Hainan Meteorological Service attended the meeting. Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of meteorological cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, Dr Bi Baogui, Deputy Administrator of the China Meteorological Administration; Mr Zhuang Xudong, Director General of the Guangdong Meteorological Service; Mr Leong Weng-kun, Director of the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau; Mr Yang Chuan, Standing Committee Member of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Zhuhai; and Dr Chan Pak-wai, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, participated in a tree-planting ceremony at the Zhuhai Meteorological Service, symbolizing the unity and concerted efforts of GHM to continue providing high-quality meteorological services for the Greater Bay Area.

During the cooperation meeting on 29th January, the parties reported on the cooperation progress and latest developments, and discussed the collaboration plans in the next stage. These include advancing the work of the "Meteorological Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (2020 – 2035)", forecast techniques development, observation and informatization construction, meteorological services, climate change response, and training and personnel exchanges, etc.

In the seminar on 30th January, a total of 31 technical reports were presented, covering topics such as analysis of high-impact weather, forecast and observation techniques, numerical prediction, climate change, urban weather and micro-climate. The experts shared their latest research findings and engaged in constructive interactions, achieving scientific, technical and personnel exchanges.
