Observatory’s colleague lecturing in Thailand
7 April 2025
At the invitation of the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), Mr. KOK Mang-hin Marco, Acting Senior Scientific Officer of the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO), visited the TMD Headquarters on 24 March 2025 to deliver lectures at a knowledge sharing workshop on "Future Development of Aviation Meteorological Services". The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr. Somnuk SUKHAWANIT, Deputy Director-General for Operations of TMD.
The workshop covered various topics, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Meteorological Information Exchange Model (IWXXM), System Wide Information Management (SWIM), meteorological services supporting air traffic management and cost recovery of aviation weather services. Mr. Kok not only shared the Observatory’s practical experiences in aviation meteorology, but also facilitated in-depth discussion with the participants on the future development of aviation weather services. Over 90 TMD meteorological personnel participated in the workshop in person or online. They highlighted that they have greatly benefited from the event and considered HKO’s experience in addressing the meteorological requirements of aviation stakeholders as extremely valuable.
This workshop marks one of the key initiatives for deepening cooperation between HKO and TMD, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2023. The Observatory looks forward to enhancing experience sharing and technical exchanges with various meteorological agencies, and continuing to contribute to the improvement of weather services for the global meteorological community.
