360 Tour of the LIDAR System

18 March 2021

Today (18 March 2021), the 360 degree virtual tour will bring you to the LIght Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) System installed at the Southern Fire Station of the Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok. The Observatory installed a LIDAR system at the airport in 2002, which was the first of its kind in the world for airport weather alerting. It detects windshear occurring in rain-free conditions and enhances the efficiency of windshear detection over the runways. If you are interested in knowing what have been installed in the equipment shelter, please join the tour now.
