The Observatory launches the “Localised Heavy Rain Advisory” service

14 May 2021

The Observatory launches the “Localised Heavy Rain Advisory” service today (14 May) to replace the existing “Announcement on Localised Heavy Rain” service. Apart from the recorded rainfall, the issuance of the Localised Heavy Rain Advisory will also take into consideration the nowcast rainfall with a view to advising people of localized heavy rain as early as possible, so members of the public can grasp the situation and take early preparation.

For example, when heavy rain with more than 70 millimetres of rainfall has fallen or is expected to fall in an hour in individual districts of Hong Kong, the Observatory will issue the Localised Heavy Rain Advisory, to alert the public of potential flooding due to heavy rain in the districts, so as to take precautionary measures.
