"Cool Met Stuff": New weather radar at Tai Mo Shan
28 June 2024
The Tai Mo Shan weather radar, which has been serving Hong Kong for 24 years since 1999, was dismantled at the end of last year and replaced with a more advanced dual-polarization S-band Doppler weather radar this year. The installation process of the new radar spanned the two seasons of winter and spring. From the cold winds of minus two degrees to the humid foggy spring, colleagues from the Observatory worked tirelessly day and night on the highest mountain in Hong Kong. The installation was successfully completed before the rainy season to support the Observatory in monitoring severe weather.
In the latest episode of "Cool Met Stuff" will take you to the Tai Mo Shan weather radar, where the Scientific Officer and Radar Specialist Mechanic will reveal the unforgettable journey of installing the new radar.
The video is now available on the "MyObservatory" mobile application and the Observatory's website for your viewing (programme is broadcasted in Cantonese).
