Happy Business Visit to the Civil Aviation Department's New Headquarters
19 September 2013
A total of 21 colleagues visited the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) newheadquarters at the
Airport
Island
on 23 August 2013. Guided by MrPFWong, Assistant Director-General of Civil Aviation (Air Services), and threeof his colleagues, we had a tour of the three exhibition galleries along the Education Path inside the CAD headquarters, each with a theme and topic, including the aviation history of Hong Kong, aircraft cabinet design and safety features, introduction to Hong Kong's Flight Information Region and CAD's responsibilities, means to make aviation development sustainable, etc. We also visited the viewing gallery overlooking the facilities of the new Air Traffic Control Centre. During the Q&A session, Mr Wong shared with us some insight on how problems were dealt with in the planning and implementation of the construction project. We were particularly impressed by the design-and-build approach adopted for CAD headquarters.
As the timing of our visit coincided with the recent airing of a very popular TV series about pilots, colleagues had the opportunity of learning more about the real-life challenges facing the aviation professionals. The visit has deepened our understanding of the close links between weather and aviation.
