Assistant Director, Mrs Hilda Lam giving lectures in Nanjing

At the invitation of WMO Regional Training Centre in Nanjing , China , Mrs Hilda Lam, Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, gave a series of lectures on meteorological hazards early warning for developing countries on 12 May 2011 . The lectures covered severe weather warning system in Hong Kong , warning dissemination, coordination between meteorological office and government emergency response units, outreach services to the public and special users as well as various international projects under the World Meteorological Organization framework to assist meteorological offices to enhance their capabilities in weather forecasting and warning dissemination.

There were over 20 participants from Asia , Pacific Islands as well as eastern part of Africa . It was a good opportunity for the Observatory to share with developing countries in early warning of hazardous weather, contributing to disaster preparedness in the region.
