The Fourth Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Seminar on Earthquake Science and Technology

The Hong Kong Observatory hosted the Fourth Guangdong- Hong Kong- Macao Seminar on Earthquake Science and Technology during 7- 8 Jan. More than 30 experts and technical staff from the Hong Kong Observatory, the Earthquake Administration of Guangdong Province, the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as well as Civil Engineering and Development Department and Buildings Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region participated in the Seminar.Dr. Lee Boon-ying (Director of the Hong Kong Observatory), Mr. Huang Jian-tao (Director of the Earthquake Administration of Guangdong Province) and Mr. Ant?nio Viseu (Deputy Director of the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau) officiated the opening ceremony. The cooperation on earthquake science and technology among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao was reviewed, and the three sides looked forward to further strengthening of cooperation for disaster preparedness and mitigation in the region.
A total of 18 papers were presented during the seminar, covering earthquake monitoring, engineering, earthquake precursor, tsunami, geological studies, risk analysis and disaster response.
Professor Ding Yuan-zhang, Scientific Advisor of the Hong Kong Observatory, also participated in the Seminar. He held a special meeting with Observatory colleagues to advise on their seismological work. Professor Ding was the Director of the Earthquake Administration of Guangdong Province. He has conducted seismological research for many years and published many research papers and monographs.
