Mainland Delegations Visited Hong Kong Observatory - Sharing Experience in Issuing Weather Warnings and Related Coordination Arrangement

Delegations from the Zhuhai Municipal People's Government (Zhuhai delegation) and the Emergency Management Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province (Guangdong delegation) paid visits to the Hong Kong Observatory on 15 and 30 August 2012 respectively.

The Guangdong delegation of 10 delegates was led by Mr. Ji Jiaqi, Director General of Emergency Management Office, the People's Government of Guangdong Province, while the Zhuhai delegation of 16 delegates was led by Mr. Liu Jiawen, Vice Mayor of the Zhuhai Municipal People's Government. The objectives of both delegations were to learn about (1) the Observatory's experience in issuing weather warnings; (2) the coordination in emergency response management among the Observatory and other government departments and related organizations, and (3) communication between the Observatory and the media. Colleagues of the Observatory made concise presentations on the relevant topics to the delegations. Besides, experts from the Geotechnical Engineering Office also joined the Observatory to introduce the Landslip Warning System and their emergency response services to the Guangdong delegation.

Members of the delegations and the Observatory's colleagues discussed enthusiastically and exchanged views openly, sharing experience in issuing weather warnings and coordinating with other relevant parties in emergency response. The visits of official mainland delegations indeed well demonstrated the recognition of the Observatory's expertise in public weather services.
