Observatory's colleague giving lectures in the Thai Meteorological Department
22 September 2010
At the invitation of the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), Mr. Wong Wai-kin, Scientific Officer of the Observatory, visited
Bangkok
and lectured on data assimilation technique in a training workshop on numerical weather prediction. There were about 30 participants from various divisions of TMD including weather forecasting, aviation meteorology, hydrology, meteorological information processing, and numerical weather prediction modelling. The course covered basic theory, use of observation data, techniques of operational implementation and recent development on data assimilation. It aimed at providing knowledge on data assimilation to colleagues of different background and enhancing their capacities in the application and research development of numerical weather prediction model. During the course, the participants actively took part in the discussion and question sessions. They were highly interested in the Observatory's work in the application, research and development of numerical weather prediction over the recent years. They also looked forward to similar training opportunity and future collaboration with the Observatory to further enhance their techniques on numerical weather prediction.
