13 June 2011
Mr. C.M. Shun, Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, visited Guangdong Meteorological Bureau (GMB) and Earthquake Administration of Guangdong Province (EAGP) in early June to discuss the strengthening of collaborations.
Mr. Shun first led Messrs L.S. Lee and P.W. Chan, Senior Scientific Officers, to visit GMB on 7 June. They met with Mr. Xu Yong-guo, Director-General of GMB, and other leaders of the Bureau to discuss collaborative matters, including the exchange of meteorological data, technical exchange on numerical weather prediction models, and experience sharing on the use of new media for providing weather services. The two parties also shared the vision of further strengthening meteorological observations over Pearl River Delta and South China Sea.
Mr. Shun then visited EAGP on 8 June, as accompanied by Mr. H.Y. Mok, Senior Scientific Officer, and met with Mr. Liang Gan, Deputy Director-General, to share experience on seismic monitoring work and explore possible collaborations in the future. Both sides agreed to strengthen further the co-operation, especially in the exchange of seismic data, in order to enhance the monitoring and early reporting of earthquakes.
