The Observatory co-organized Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day
28 October 2011
To enhance public awareness of mountaineering safety, the Civil Aid Service joined hands with 17 government departments and non-governmental organizations to hold the "Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day" on 23 October (Sunday). The Observatory has long been rendering full support to this activity. A booth was set up to introduce weather phenomena which would affect mountaineering and hiking, as well as highlight the precautions under various severe weather conditions. The Observatory also took this opportunity to introduce the newly launched " Weather Information for Hiking and Mountaineering " webpage and other services which help the public plan their outdoor activities, such as the " Digital Weather Forecast " webpage. In addition, the Observatory staff participated in a public talk held before the "Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day" and introduced the relationship between weather and outdoor activities to the general public.
