Anemometer Design Competition - The Adjudication Day

    25 May 2009

The anemometer design competition jointly organized by the Observatory and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong has reached its final stage. On 16 May 2009, 23 participating teams from 18 primary and secondary schools presented the design and demonstrated the operation of their anemometers to the judging panel. The students explained the difficulties encountered in designing the anemometer and shared their experience in overcoming them. While they felt that they learned a lot about the technique of wind measurement, they also realized the importance of team work throughout the the competition. As a member of the judging panel, the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University of Hong Kong, Professor Hung Yeung Sam said: "The students' entries are not only practical, I am pleasantly surprised to find that some designs are quite innovative."

The winning teams will be announced in an award presentation ceremony on 4 July 2009.
