Observatory staff visited Hunan Provincial Meteorological Bureau

As part of regular exchange visits between the Hong Kong Observatory and the China Meteorological Administration, the Observatory's frontline operational staff are arranged to visit provincial meteorological bureaux for experience sharing. This year, a visit was made to the Hunan Provincial Meteorological Bureau and it was the first time that the Observatory delegation was led by a Senior Experimental Officer - Mr FC Sham.The delegation of three visited Hunan Meteorological Centre, Provincial Climate Centre, Provincial Meteorological Equipment Centre, Lightning Protection Centre, Institute of Meteorological Science and Mapoling National Meteorological Observing Station during 8-11 March. The purpose was to share experience with frontline meteorological staff on weather operations and services as well asstaffing arrangement and the latest development on weather observation and forecast. Mr Sham introduced the Observatory's organizational structure and the recent development of weather operations and services in Hong Kong.
The Observatory's delegation was greatly interested in the mobile meteorological emergency response system of the Hunan Meteorological Bureau, which includes a vehicle equipped with a weather radar and automatic weather observing equipment. The delegation was also impressed by their work attitude towards ever-improving weather services and their efforts in preventing and reducing weather-related disasters. This coincides with the Observatory's guiding philosophy of "protecting lives and building a better society through science". Both parties found this visit very fruitful and beneficial to service enhancement in the future.
