Enhanced Information Services related to Heavy Rain and Severe Convective Weather

TAM Hiu-ching

To strengthen the dissemination of weather information, the Hong Kong Observatory enhanced the “Regional Information of Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm” webpage and the “MyObservatory” app with the addition of graphical presentation of maximum recorded rainfall categories in the past hour for various districts in Hong Kong. This enables members of the public to better appreciate districts affected by heavy rain.

Besides, the Observatory continues to enhance the dissemination of information related to severe convective weather. When there is potential occurrence of tornadoes or waterspouts accompanying with thunderstorms, the Observatory will include relevant information in the Thunderstorm Warning and issue a Special Weather Tips. Members of the public should pay attention to the precautions mentioned in the Thunderstorm Warning to avoid the potential dangers arising from the corresponding hazardous weather.
