Hong Kong Observatory actively participates in the activities of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission

The Hong Kong Observatory joined the Chinese delegation consisting of representatives from the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center (NMEFC) to attend the 31st Session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Pacific Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/PTWS-XXXI) of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO held in Beijing, China in April 2025. The session coordinated cooperation and actions among member states in tsunami early warning and disaster reduction, including the Tsunami Ready Recognition of the United Nations Ocean Decade Tsunami Programme. Hong Kong Observatory’s Senior Scientific Officer Ms LAM Ching-chi served as the Chair of the Recommendations Committee and Rapporteur of the host country at this session.
